May at Acoustic Blend Cafe
What an exciting show in April! Those in attendance were treated to a wonderful evening of jazz with Mim Adams, a true professional with lots of stage presence and showmanship. Mim performed with Aurochs, a backing trio of Ali Berkok on piano, Pete Johnston on bass and Jake Oelrichs on drums. The evening started with a build up of the instruments to the introduction of Mim. The audience was treated to intricate arrangements of jazz standards and originals displaying each performers talents. Mim showed her mastery of the jazz genre with challenging jumps and runs in her scatting to the smooth silky quality needed in simple tunes and ballads. A hightlight of the evening was the A Cappella songs performed by Pipes A Cappella with Dylan Hillyer, Nikki Loney and Mim, featuring Mim's challenging and beautiful vocal arrangements. It's hard to believe we have such amazing talent right here in our own backyard.
A special thank you to George Appleton for doing sound and to Jim Gillard for operating the lights.
To round out the season is another talented local performer. You've seen him before as one of the singers in the A Cappella group 4 Over 40. On May 11th Kevin Ernst will grace the stage at ABC. Kevin is no stranger in front of an audience. He brings an eclectic mix of jazz, light rock, classical and with help from special guests 4 Over 40, he will perform some A Cappella numbers. Kevin will be backed up by a three-piece ensemble of Shawn Trotter, Dave Simpson and Terry Holek. Kevin's proceeds for the night will be going towards his son's "Enbridge Ride to Cure Cancer". His son will also have a table set up for anyone who might want to donate.
So don't be shy, come out to hear the fabulous local talent and have some locally roasted coffee from Red Hill Coffee Trade.
Back by popular demand is local artist Melinda Shank-Miles. She will have prints available for purchase of some of her original paintings.
Don't forget about Open Mic. Feel free to come and perform a 1, 2, or 3 songs, read some poetry, do a magic trick or whatever you like to perform. It's a great way to get exposure and work through your nerves.
